Testing Linux on the MacBook
I read this howto on how to get Ubuntu Linux up and running on Apple MacBooks. Since I was reinstalling the macbook anyway and had all the data properly backed up I decided that I might just as well give it a go. So I did.
Following the Howto I quickly had the disks partitioned and the Ubuntu Edgy Live CD running. Only thing not working was getting the correct resolution, the AirPort and automatical mount of my USB stick. But, the installation went smoothly, and I could boot up…

The bottom line is: Follow the howto and everything will work! (except automatic mount of USB sticks). Even Beryl, the ultra-pr0n opengl window manager for Linux worked as slick as grease.
I was pretty Amazed at how fast it booted, how slick eveything was and how snappy everything worked. I actually considered switching back to Linux again – until I remembered why I switched away from Linux last spring. That made me reboot the MB back into OSX – and lo, it booted even faster than Linux now that it was cleaned up, and I could sync my AddressBook with my cellphone with no effort at all. Fantastic.
So even though Linux works like a charm on the MacBook I see no reason at all to run it when I actually have the choice of running OSX.
