Bye bye Network Address Translation! But no luck with Telio just yet..

First we got rid of Telenor, and now I have gotten rid of NAT on the home network as well. Or at least almost. All my servers and machines used by humans now has public IP’s and all traffic is just routed and filtered, not translated. End-to-end connectivity, yeah! My ISP are a bunch that really really hats NAT, so they give out subnets for free to their customers. I find that to be the most admirable thing an ISP has ever done for me (I am used to Telenor so it doesn’t take much to impress me, but still!)

I had high hopes for being able to dial in to my Telio IP phone once I gave it an public IP so I didn’t have to rely on the Sipura adapters NAT traversal techniques – but there was no such luck to be had. I got the aid from my ISP’s CTO (Chief Technology Officer) with debugging packages entering and leaving thieir network, and just like last time I had a lengthy debugging session we found that when you call my number Telio doesn’t even TRY to initiate a call from their end. That sucks. So I’ll flame Telio once more after I test the adapter at my friends place – his adapter is actually working.
