There is a new beast in town!
My friend and former colleague Harald gave me this super file server that was getting phased out from his work place because it was, well, getting kinda old…
However, for usage as an file and web server at home it’s more than good enough. It’s a 1997 model Cinet MP-400 server with Quad Ppro 200MHz CPU’s, 1.5 GiB ECC RAM, two Adaptec SCSI controllers, one Mylex RAID controller, redundant power supplies and 7x9GiB SCSI disks. I am planning on throwing in a IDE controller and 4 large disks for storage as well.
In the above picture I am initializing the raid. It looks like it’s going to take some 6 hours to get the RAID-5 with 5 disks ready to go. But hey, raid is cool so it’s worth the wait.
